Your Chance to Live Like a Star Restaurateur

by | Mar 8, 2016

New York restaurateur Keith McNally’s West Village townhouse is back on the real estate market. How much? A cool $13.99 million. Chump change, right? Well, if you do have the bankroll available to swing a purchase like this, the property boasts 5 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, and 4,600 square feet. Originally built in 1910, the exposed beams and natural wood floors give the townhouse an earthy, comforting air. The available amenities read like a who’s who in modern convenience. The townhouse has a private patio and yard, exposed brick, working fireplace, built-ins as far as the eye can see and even a front yard. If you have storage issues here, you may be a hoarder. Sounds more like an old farmhouse in the New York countryside than a townhouse in the heart of the West Village.

headerThe kitchen is amazing, but would you expect anything less from a nearly $14 million townhouse owned by McNally, of Balthazar and Minetta Tavern (among others) fame? The kitchen’s cabinet and flooring combination evokes the rustic French countryside. While I love both the cabinets and countertops, I am less partial to the open pantry present in this amazing kitchen. Regardless, the kitchen makes you feel at home. With a true wood burning pizza oven in the kitchen, what more could you ask for? The exposed brick forming the casing for the pizza oven reminds you that the townhouse is over 100 years old. Yet another homeowner going above and beyond by renovating to preserve the original architecture of a true New York gem.

You have to wonder if the nearly $14 million price tag is realistic. Mr. McNally has been trying to move this gem for the past few years without any takers. Previously, he has unsuccessfully tried to rent out the property for $25,000 a month and $19,000 a month. Priced at over $3,000 per square foot, inquiring minds wonder if the restaurateur is going to have to lower his price before he can finally part ways with this hundred year old makeover. I hope whoever ultimately calls this townhouse home enjoys and appreciates it as much as I would.
