by | Sep 22, 2020

From star-studded homes to beachfront compounds, architectural debuts to agents inking deals from the discomfort of their hospital beds, here is a look at what made headlines this September at The Agency.

SAND, SEA AND SKY VILLASThe Toronto Star called this Anguilla hideaway, featuring three luxury villas and a total of 16 bedrooms, ”splendour on the beach.” Represented by Ian Hurdle, Sean O’Neill and Katherine Baryluk, Sand, Sea and Sky Villas offers 30,000 square feet of living space perched above the shore, each with its own terrace, pool, spa, kitchen and butler. “Just think of all the friends and extended family members you could host for a vacation,” the paper writes. “Or consider the business option: buy the whole enchilada yourself, live in one villa and rent the other two out for $2,2900 to $5,000 each per night, depending on the time of year.”

350 ORTEGA RIDGE ROAD – In the piece, This Barry Berkus-Designed Montecito Home Comes with Transcendent Views, Penta spotlighted this spectacular, gated estate situated atop a 1.8-acre knoll overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Represented by Mauricio Umansky, Eric Haskell, Natasha Barrett and Jill Nelsen, the home was built for a designer and her husband to showcase contemporary vision, with walls of glass framing the views and maximizing natural light from the morning meditation room. “Hawks are frequent visitors during such morning meditations, cutting across the panorama that surrounds the Barry Berkus-design house,” writes Penta.

313 N. KENTER AVENUE

The Los Angeles Times highlighted the Brentwood home of stage and screen actress Karen Sillas and producer-writer Ivan Menchell. Represented by Joey Ben-Zvi, Farrah Brittany, Brandon Piller and Mauricio Umansky, the five-bedroom residence in Kenter Canyon boasts a warm and romantic feel, ideal for gathering and entertaining. “The olive-hued Craftsman-style home, built in 1947, looks right at home in its leafy canyon setting,” writes the Times. “A footbridge crosses over a small stream to reach the two-story house, while mature birch trees frame a raised porch and rose-covered pergola.”

SANDRO DAZZAN – The New York Post consulted with The Agency Malibu Managing Partner Sandro Dazzan in a recent report about the rush of buyers heading west to rent their “winter houses” before the snow falls. Sandro tells The Post that he began working with New York clients in July looking to snag winter-season rentals in the coveted oceanfront community, seeing about 25% more inquiries for winter rentals than in previous years. Sandro says New Yorkers generally prefer hotel-style furnished rentals and beachfront properties like 24380 Malibu Road, featuring an oceanfront master suite, deck and rooftop terrace.

1010 N. ROXBURY DRIVE

The Wall Street Journal featured the stunning Beverly Hills property of former nail-polish brand OPI executive, 1010 N. Roxbury Drive, represented by Jacob Dadon. Built in 1926, the 13,765-square-foot house combines Mediterranean revival style with Spanish and Italian design, boasting a two-story foyer, seven bedrooms, a pool and elevator. Miriam Schaeffer purchased the home in 2012 and spearheaded an expansion by architect Richard Manion, increasing the home’s size by nearly 40% and adding a basement entertainment space with a wine cellar, bar and media room.

13817 W. SUNSET BLVD – “Situated along the iconic Sunset Boulevard in one of the most prestigious areas of the Pacific Palisades is this transitional-style, five-bedroom estate,” writes Livabl of this brand new trophy estate represented by Marco Rufo. The magnificent property showcases a double-height foyer, chef’s kitchen with marble, waterfall island, home office, theater, wine storage, elevator and 9,000-square-foot backyard with swimming pool and spa.

926 S. MILL STREETMansion Global covered the market debut of this estate at the base of Aspen Mountain, listed for $45 million by Allie Lutz, Heather Sinclair, Chris Flynn and Lisa Hatem. “This Colorado mountain getaway takes the log cabin to new heights,” writes Mansion Global of the nine-bedroom, nearly 14,000-square-foot house, which it notes is among the priciest homes for sale and fourth-largest home currently listed in Aspen. Built in 2006, the home boasts soaring 30’ ceilings, exposed log beams, panoramic views, a bar, game room, theater and rooftop hot tub.

6315 GAYTON PLACE

Fox Business recently reported that brothers Chris, Liam and Luke Hemsworth have listed their quiet, Malibu gated retreat with views of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica Mountains and local horse stables. Represented by Eric Haskell, the modern architectural home boasts four bedrooms, tall ceilings, a chef-grade kitchen, 750-bottle wine cellar, theater and floor-to-ceiling doors to the outdoor dining and lounging space.

2660 4TH STREET – The Santa Monica Craftsman owned by Will Forte has hit the market, located just a couple of blocks from the beach. “Built in 1913, the home also comes with plenty of comic cred—the idea for the television series ‘The Last Man on Earth’ was conceived here,” writes Realtor.com, adding, “much of the movie ‘MacGruber’ was also written in the home’s dining room.” Represented by Michael Grady and Jagger Kroener, the three-bedroom cottage features original features, vaulted ceilings, expansive windows and ocean views from the master suite.

IAN HURDLE – Talk about a commitment to your clients. Ian Hurdle, Founder and Director of The Agency Turks & Caicos, recently told The Wall Street Journal about the time he wrote a multi-million dollar offer from his hospital bed, before being wheeled into surgery. Ian was showing a billionaire client properties when a nagging pain at his side continued to worsen. He was feeling awful by the time he arrived at the doctor, soon heading to the hospital doubled over in pain. His client then called, having seen a $3.4 million dollar home he wanted. With tubes in his arm, gown on, nurses ready, Ian put in the $3.1 offer with a 30-day close. “They accepted it. As soon as I put the phone down, I passed out.” Into gallbladder surgery he went.
