The waning of winter means the burst of life and activity in New York City. Old favorites return and new opportunities appear throughout the five boroughs.
Triplemint has selected a few highlights below for the spring season worth checking out.
NYSoM Park Cleanup – Brooklyn
Springtime usually means a great opportunity for you to tidy up your home and get those long-postponed chores done. New York State of Mind is a nonprofit organization that reminds us spring cleaning doesn’t have to just be for your home: they are organizing volunteers to help clean up Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick. As a part of this effort, volunteers will also help distribute care packages to homeless people who gather at the park.
If you are not in the area, use NYSoM’s model as inspiration to do some spring cleaning in your neighborhood park, or find other volunteer opportunities to give back to your community.

Little Island – Chelsea

Open to the public this spring, Little Island at Pier 55 is a new park “floating” in the Hudson. Years in the making, this park is a reimagining of a pier, merging nature with art. Visually arresting, this fully landscaped park will be a must-see addition to the area.
There have been some sneak peaks of the construction over the last year, but this spring you will be able to visit the finished park. Featuring a playground, 700-seat amphitheater, a hidden garden, and many outlook points, this park is slated to be your next favorite spot in the city.

KUSAMA: Cosmic Nature – The Bronx
Highly anticipated after a year’s delay, this massive celebration of Yayoi Kusama’s career is scheduled to begin this April. Known for her eye-catching displays often featuring repetition, such as in her Infinity Room series of mirror rooms, Kusama has consistently drawn crowds to her installations. Kusama’s previous work will display alongside new creations alongside new blooms from the botanical garden.
Cosmic Nature is scheduled to continue from April through the fall, with a rotating curation of complimenting indoor and outdoor garden displays. If you do visit the gardens multiple times this year, expect a new experience each time as new plants come to life and new installations appear to match the natural world around them.
