Nate Berkus Sells Fifth Avenue Penthouse

by | Jul 11, 2016

Interior designer, Nate Berkus, who ascended into fame with an endorsement from Oprah and a collaboration with Target, recently sold his Fifth Avenue penthouse for a respectable $9.8 million.

headerThe property was originally listed at $10.5 million in November 2015, but it looks like Berkus was willing to take a $700K discount in order to part ways with the property.

The penthouse is a three bedroom, 2.5 bath duplex, and boasts the unique honor of being featured on the cover of Architectural Digest. The top floor of the property was designed for entertaining and receiving guests, while the lower lever is for your more traditional living quarters. This will allow the future owners to keep their entertainment/parties separate from their personal space.

The luxury of having an apartment with this much space on Fifth Avenue is priceless, well maybe not priceless (more like $10 million). The monthly maintenance on this penthouse is just over $7,000 per month or $84,000 per year to put that into perspective.

39 Fifth Avenue

There is only one active sale currently in the building, and it is listed at 1.7 million compared to the nearly $10 million that Nate Berkus got for his penthouse.

39 Fifth Avenue is a prewar building in Greenwich Village built by the architectural firm Bing & Bing back in 1922. This apartment building was actually one of the first substantial apartment buildings built on Lower Fifth Avenue.

The 58 unit building was a standard apartment building up until 1986 when it was converted to a co-op. The building sits in the dead center of what can be described as The Prime real estate on Fifth Avenue. The building is adjacent to 9th, 10th and 11th streets which are some of the most attractive blocks on Fifth Avenue.
