June Bloom: Properties, People & Places Making Headlines This Month

by | Jun 16, 2020

From heartfelt, personal podcasts to magnificent mid-century remodels and a home that is as pretty as a poppy, here is a look at what made headlines in June at The Agency.

MAURICIO UMANSKY

The Tom Ferry Podcast Experience featured a lively interview with Mauricio Umansky, Founder and CEO of The Agency, which Tom called “one of the most innovative brokerages in our industry.” During the personal podcast titled Mauricio Umansky Reveals Powerful Business Tactics to Disrupt the Industry, Mauricio shared how his health condition helped him develop his strongest trait in business and in life, as well as the frustration that motivated him to open The Agency and insight on the strategies and tactics every agent needs to succeed. Listen to the full podcast here.

Mauricio’s Instagram also caught the attention of The Financial Times in the article Meet the estate agents turning themselves into superstars. The article took a look at the new breed of real estate agents blurring the line between the personal and the professional. It noted how Mauricio does just that for his more than 400,000 followers, sharing pictures of properties, himself working out in his home gym, skiing and hanging out with his wife, Kyle Richards. BILLY ROSE

The Agency’s Founder and President Billy Rose was consulted by The Washington Post for his insight on the rental market’s reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. The article looked at whether the lease to buy option could become more popular as uncertainty in the market makes home shoppers seek a residence to rent before buying. “You might consider trying to build a lease option if you think it’s something that you might want to buy, but you’re kind of test-driving it first,” Billy told the Post.

732 BROOKS AVENUE | VENICE

Fancy Pants Homes showcased this distinct Venice residence designed by “architect power couple” Jin Ah Park and Jonathan Ward in the article The Unique California Poppy House Hits the Market for the Very First Time. Represented by Lindsay Guttman and Alexandria Brunkhorst, the home “has been drawing people’s attention for years, with its dramatic-yet-fresh design—marked by a poppy silhouette laser-cut into an aluminum screen that wraps the second-floor facade,” the article notes. Located blocks from Abbot Kinney and the beach, the house features voluminous glass spaces, private yards with exotic fruit trees and a stunning interior courtyard.

JAMES HARRIS

For its series about pop culture’s rising stars, Thrive Global interviewed our own James Harris, star of Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. In the article, James Harris: “Divide, conquer and empower,” James shares what led him to a career in real estate, the most interesting story that happened since he began his career and how to avoid burnout. “You need to strategically divide and conquer all that makes your business run efficiently. It is vital to identify the strengths of each member of your business. This will elevate results while also creating a sense of empowerment and help avoid burnout.”

DAVID PARNES

David Parnes treated The Real Deal to a tour of his L.A. home for its special Quarantine Cribs edition. Viewers joined David (and special guest star, daughter India) as he walked through his Bird Streets home, office and sanctuary. The tour includes a glimpse of his rose garden, complete with a couple of bovine buddies, the tree-lined pool and the kitchen, where David says the family spends most of its time. THE RIDGE | BRENTWOOD

Mansion Global recently spotlighted The Ridge, a stunning residence located at 2488 Westridge Road in Brentwood’s coveted Mandeville Canyon, represented by Nick Sandler, Bennett Hirsch and Santiago Arana. The article notes that the remodeled mid-century house, with central open-air atrium, soaring pitched ceilings and wood-burning fireplace, was inspired by homes in Portugal, Spain and the south of France. “The property affords a unique combination of informal living and serenity within classic mid-century bones and understated elegance of rich and beautiful organic materials throughout,” Bennett told Mansion Global. JOHN TASHTCHIAN

The Wall Street Journal recently explored how real estate agents are showing property while following social distance measures. The Agency’s John Tashtchian told WSJ about one experience where he received an offer, negotiated and closed all during the pandemic, with nearly the whole process handled virtually. ZHANE DIKES

Not all showings go as planned, or even clothed. The Wall Street Journal recently featured the piece When Buyers and Sellers Bare It All, with agents sharing stories of showings during which clients stripped down to the buff. Zhane Dikes of The Agency San Francisco shared a tale of an open house she was hosting in the Mission District, when a man came in while she was busy with other clients. After a while, she noticed she hadn’t seen him and went to check things out. She heard the water running and asked if he was taking a shower. “Yes. I am. I’ll be out in just a second.” When the police escorted him out, someone was playing OutKast’s “So Fresh, So Clean.” Read the full story here.
