This week, we sat down with Triplemint agent Jayme Montgomery to discuss her dedication to her clients, and her top tips for those NYC renters with dogs.

Why did you become an agent?
I became an agent because I wanted to help my friends and family buy, sell, and rent real estate. It was a natural progression as I was in sales for eight years prior to jumping into real estate and had gone through the process of buying a condo and knew it was something that I would love to do.
After constantly talking about it for a few years, I decided to take the plunge and have been loving my new life and job ever since!
You love sharing photos of you with your clients, what do you love about working directly with clients?
I love working directly with people. I think finding your next home is a very intimate process that is full of stress and emotions. I like to help ease that stress and make the process seamless, easy, and fun.
I always make sure to have fun during appointments with my clients and help them visualize living their everyday life in the apartments we view. Once we find their dream apartment and they have their keys in hand I like to commemorate the moment with a selfie. Many of my clients love the picture and actually ask for me to send it to them.
What’s the most memorable client experience you’ve had?
The most memorable experience was working with a group of roommates who had just graduated college and were looking to move into their first apartment in the city. Since they had never lived in the city before I had to show them what their dollar could afford in our beautiful but sometimes expensive city. We applied to an apartment but were denied, at this point it normally really upsets clients but this group had a great attitude and were ready to go back out the next day and look again. In the end they ended up with a better apartment and I believe their positive attitude helped us find their dream apartment in NYC.

What tips would you give to aspiring agents who are just starting out?
I would say organization is the key to being successful, when you first start out you’ll have a handful of clients and it’ll be easy to track notes, documents, etc.
Once your client list starts to grow you need to create your own CRM database to ensure follow up is quick and efficient. The number one thing clients want is a responsive agent who is knowledgeable and works in their best interest.
My last tip would be to keep a positive mindset, there’ll be times when a deal is lost and you have to learn from these experiences. They’ll only make you a better agent in the long run.
Do you have any tips for NYC renters with dogs?
My biggest tip is give yourself time. In NYC, having a dog adds another layer to the apartment search process. Give yourself plenty of time to find the right apartment, be willing and ready to pay an extra security deposit, and be honest about how big your dog is.
There are some buildings that only allow small dogs (under 30 pounds), so using a real estate agent to help you navigate through this will save you a lot of time and frustration. Being patient is key when finding a home for you and your furry friend.

What is your favorite NY neighborhood, and why?
I have so many favorite neighborhoods in NY! If I had to pick one it would be the West Village. When you first walk around the neighborhood, the brownstones immediately catch your eye. I love architecture and the brownstones remind me of an old New York, something my grandparents would describe to me as a child.
The restaurant scene is probably why I love this neighborhood as well. I tend to base my days off what I’m going to eat and this neighborhood is full of culture and delicious food. My husband and I usually tend to lean toward this neighborhood when we’re looking for good date night spots.
What does the future hold for you?
In the future, I would like to expand my business to other urban markets. I want all potential clients looking to buy, sell, or rent to understand how amazing their transition from home to home can be with me and Triplemint. I would love to help grow the Triplemint brand nationwide.
P ersonally, my main goal is to own my own beach house that’s big enough to hold my entire family, so we can enjoy our time together at a place that makes everyone smile!
