Best Places to See the Seasons Change in Orange County

by | Oct 16, 2019

In Orange County—where the weather is consistently warm and sunny— catching glimpses of the seasons can be a rare delight. Here, we highlight five places in and around Orange County that capture a touch of fall.

Descanso Gardens – Explore this 150-acre botanical garden in La Cañada Flintridge, just north of Pasadena and about an hour north of Orange County. Come November, roses and camellias will be in bloom alongside colorful fall foliage.

Fullerton Arboretum
 – Just outside Santa Ana is this 26-acre botanical garden, which boasts a collection of plants from around the world. Catch a free garden tour every second and fourth Saturday of the month starting at 10am. In the fall, you’ll want to see the deciduous oak and maple trees.

Sherman Library and Gardens
 – Beautiful year-round, the 2.2 acres of this Corona del Mar horticultural retreat boast immaculate gardens. Peaceful patios and conservatories are all linked together by brick walkways bordered by beds blooming with seasonal flowers and soothing fountains. When the weather cools, check out the fragrant Rose Garden and the lush Fern Grotto and the appetite-enhancing Herb Garden, stocked with orange-mint and garlic.

Niguel Botanical Preserve
 – Wear walking shoes and spend the day on Niguel Botanical Preserve’s four miles of trails, which traverse the 18 acres above the amphitheater within Crown Valley Community Park. This scenic spot is home to 2,000 plant species, including colorful Lilies of the Nile and California poppies.

Wrigley Botanical Garden
 – Take a trip out to Catalina Island off the coast of SoCal and check out The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden, located up Avalon Canyon, about a 30-minute walk from the town center. In addition to maintaining several species of plants endemic to the Channel Islands, the Botanical Garden is the main gateway to one of the Island’s most popular hikes, the 2.8-mile Garden to Sky Trail.
