In Palm Springs, it’s all about being ready for the next adventure. Here, we spotlight seven spots that will get you in fighting shape for the next amazing excursion.
PILATES PLUS – Pilates Plus offers professionally led courses for all levels on Proformer and Reformer machines. Those looking for something slower paced should try the Form and Stretch class, while more advanced participants can push their limits and try a class with weights.
YOGA CENTRAL – Yoga Central’s owner and instructor April Jones curates an invigorating, thoughtful mix of programming—from vinyasa/yin hybrid classes to full moon yoga hikes and stand-up paddle yoga during the summer.
POWER YOGA PALM SPRINGS – In addition to a generous schedule of classes (do your flow with free weights or without), Power Yoga Palm Springs offers soothing Sound Baths on Sunday nights and an hour of open air yoga in Ruth Hardy Park on Saturdays.
DESERT ROCKS – Located in North Palm Springs, this 7,000-square-foot indoor climbing gym provides a fantastic workout—you’ll feel it in your arms for days. Rent shoes, a harness and chalk on-site, and don’t underestimate just how far you can make it up that wall.
FIT IN 42 – This gym, which has locations in Palm Desert and Palm Springs, hosts circuit training, boxing, TRX and boot camp style classes, utilizing dumbbells, sand bags and other tools. With class names like “Power Hour” and “Cardio Combat,” come ready to get heated and bust through barriers.
ORANGE THEORY – Fast, tough and effective, Orange Theory’s dual 30-minute circuit workouts keep participants moving every second—a half-hour of cardio is always paired with a half-hour of weights. Get blood pumping on rowing machines and treadmills before taking to the mats and benches for some more focused lifting.
PEDAL SPIN – Pedal Spin boasts five locations from Palm Springs to Pasadena—try the studio’s Pedal/Pump class, it’s 40 minutes of spin followed by 20 minutes of weights. As an added perk, every Pedal Spin studio offers workout packages that give back to local charities, plus, they regularly open studios for pedal-a-thons and sponsor high school mountain bike teams by giving them off-season training.
TAHQUITZ CANYON TRAIL – Log some time outside on this 1.8-mile loop, which goes out to the scenic Tahquitz Falls and back. The trail starts at the Tahquitz Canyon Visitor’s Center and swiftly gains about 350 feet in elevation—be warned, it has some tricky terrain, so bring stabilizing shoes and be ready to climb up and down rock steps that may be as high as 15 inches. The trail offers minimal facilities, so pack water and wear sun protection.
HIT THE ROAD – Take the workout outside with a nice, mind-clearing run. In Indian Wells, start on Highway 111 at Manitou Drive and run about 2 miles west towards Cook Street. This is a rolling uphill route looking at the San Jacinto Mountains—and that home stretch downhill will be well-earned. Alternatively, take the peaceful 5 mile route from Washington Street to Fred Waring Drive to Jefferson and down Miles Avenue, this path provides sidewalks and is well landscaped with rolling terrain.
