From the scenic trails of Mount Lowe to Hot8 Yoga’s perfectly heated studio, these four spots in and around Pasadena offer an activity to suit every kind of athlete—and all are guaranteed to get your blood flowing and muscles moving.
THE ROSE BOWL LOOP – With a slight incline (just 118 feet) and lots of shade from trailside oak trees, this 3.1 mile loop is suitable for all skill levels and hikers of all stripes, including walkers, joggers and leashed dogs. Be mindful of increased crowd sizes on Sunday mornings for the Rose Bowl Flea Market.
MOUNT LOWE RAILWAY LOOP – Challenging but truly rewarding, this 9.8-mile, dog-friendly loop is stocked with picturesque pine forests, deep canyons and historical points of interest. Accessible year-round, the Railway Loop runs along the ruins of the Mt. Lowe railway, Echo Mountain, and the Alpine Tavern and is marked with more than a dozen historical markers. This trail will take a few hours to complete, so pack water and snacks accordingly.
HOT8 YOGA – Hot8’s heated yoga classes range from 60 to 75 minutes—the schedule includes invigorating vinyasa flows, meditative Yin classes and strength-building “Sculpt” sessions with hand weights. The Pasadena studio also provides free parking, showers and mat and towel rentals—be sure to grab a refreshing eucalyptus towel post class.
CHEESEBRO AND PALOCHEECOMADO TRAILS – Located just off the 101 Freeway in Agoura, this trail leads into the rounded hills and canyons of Cheeseboro and Palo Comado. Formerly the preferred grazing grounds for ranchers’ livestock, this area is now a popular playground for hikers, bikers, and equestrians. Stroll through oak groves, chaparral and coastal sage scrub to Sulphur Springs or trek up to Simi Peak for an epic view before stopping for a trailside picnic.
