Bloomberg – Here’s Your Chance to Be Malibu’s Most Important Land Owner → “All you need is $150 million and a dream,” Bloomberg writes of the prestigious portfolio of land in Malibu owned by the late Hollywood dealmaker Jerry Perenchio, who represented the likes of Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. Represented by Billy Rose and Mauricio Umansky in partnership with Savills Studley, the offering is poised to make someone Malibu’s most important landowner overnight.
The Sunday Times – In Hollywood, Even Estate Agents are Stars → “In L.A., selling is an art form,” boasts The Times. In this exclusive feature, the respected publication visits some of L.A.’s most coveted luxury properties—including 91318 Nightingale, represented by Mauricio Umansky and Alejandra Aldrete, 1041 Laurel Way, represented by James Harris and David Parnes, and Mr. C Residences, represented by The Agency Development Group—and gave readers a look at the creative ways our agents market their multi-million dollar listings.
Bloomberg – A $1 Billion Bet on Selling Mansions in Mexico → Nestled along a one-mile stretch of pristine beach on Riviera Nayarit, One&Only Mandarina is the most significant new resort and residential community to grace the shores of Mexico in decades. The $1 billion development, which includes 55 ultra-private, luxury villas that capture far-reaching views of the tropical jungle, soaring mountain peaks and blue waters of the Pacific, made a major splash on Bloomberg.
The Wall Street Journal – When Parents Hire Their Children as Real Estate Agents→ Enlisting your child or relative as your real estate agent can certainly come with its challenges—but when they’re seasoned agents, it can make for the perfect match. When Mauricio Umansky and Kyle Richards put their Bel Air home on the market last fall, they selected Richards’ daughter Farrah Aldjufrie as the listing agent, along with Mauricio’s father Eduardo Umansky and sister Sharon Umansky Benton. “Most people give listings to family to save money or give [the child] the money,” Mauricio told The Wall Street Journal. “I feel like I’m giving it to amazing real estate agents.”
Bloomberg – Sacramento’s New, Million-Dollar Condos Have a Secret Tunnel to Kings Stadium → Sports fanatics are setting their sights on The Sawyer. In addition to offering a host of luxury amenities and concierge services, the 16-story hotel and luxury condominium development in Sacramento’s Downtown Commons Area, represented by The Agency Development Group, has a secret tunnel to the new, $500 million Golden 1 Center, home to the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. “‘You’re not going to wait in line, you’re going to walk right in,’” boasts Christopher Miller, vice president of TADG. “‘It’s a level of exclusivity that you and your family are going to enjoy.’”
The Wall Street Journal – Escalation Clauses: A Little-Known Bidding War Strategy → In this popular feature, The Agency’s co-founder and president Billy Rose spoke with The Wall Street Journal about this little-known bidding-war strategy, which is popular in markets like San Francisco and Seattle but less common in L.A. “‘They’re not really happening at the ultra-high end because the X amount—the increment—has got to be pretty significant. If you’re talking about a $15 million house, the X amount needs to be substantial enough to be material. A $2,000 increment is not going to make a difference,’” he asserts. The article was such a hit, MSN Money picked it up too!
Toronto Star – Ed Snider’s Estate is An Opulent Slice of “heaven”- and for sale: “How much would a billionaire spend to build the perfect home?” ponders The Star. If you’re the late Ed Snider, former owner of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, the answer is… as much as it takes. Built in 2001, the opulent residence in Montecito, designed by California architect David E. Martin in the style of a romantic villa on Italy’s Lake Como, hit the market for a cool $45 million. “‘It’s one of the most amazing estates I’ve ever seen,’” said Santiago Arana, who represented the listing alongside Mauricio Umansky.
