by | May 4, 2017

Cinco de Mayo is one of the largest annual celebrations in Los Angeles, and with the city playing host to some of the largest festivities in the country, there’s plenty of margaritas and guacamole to go around. Whether you’re looking to commemorate the day with a morning brunch or afternoon margarita, or spend the holiday immersed in all of the day-long activities the city has to offer, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Grab your sombreros and maracas and get ready for a fiesta-filled day.

BREAKFAST → Kick-start your morning with an authentic Mexican breakfast at Café de Olla. The family-owned and operated restaurant delivers some of the best in traditional Mexican food, including a signature cinnamon-infused coffee and the ever-popular Chilaquiles Poblanos plate—tortilla chips piled high with green sauce, flavorful cheese, sour cream and eggs that will turn any bad day sunny side up.

PARTY WITH THE KIDS → Olvera Street in Downtown L.A. is hosting one of the most authentic Cinco de Mayo celebrations in the city. The weekend-long, kid-friendly Cinco de Mayo Festival will be jam-packed with a colorful array of festivities including live entertainment featuring mariachi bands and folklorico dancers, free games, pinatas and entertainment, and dozens of restaurants, cafes and food trucks ready to deliver some of the best Mexican cuisine available. The event runs from May 5 to 7 and is free.

PARTY WITH THE ADULTS → FIGat7th is gearing up for its second annual ¡Fiesta at Fig!—an electric Cinco de Mayo celebration that will feature lots of food and drinks. The party kicks off at noon, featuring live music from female mariachi trio La Victoria along with live DJs throughout the night. Loteria Grill will also be hosting a pop-up bar filled with all of your favorite drinks. Looking for food? No worries. Tacos, tortas and more will be at your beck and call in the TASTE Food Hall. Admission is free.

HAPPY HOUR → Celebrate happy hour at Pez Cantina with great food and drink specials beginning at 5:30pm. Live mariachi music and Mayaztek will entertain guests throughout the night, and there will be plenty of drink specials including draft Pacifico Beer and Modelorama, along with Tequila Corralejo Margarita “Raspados.” A $25 cover charge applies.

DINNER → Wind down the night with dinner at Red O Restaurant, a posh upscale eatery on Melrose Avenue that serves up gourmet Mexican fare and a never-ending list of drinks including signature margaritas and tequila tasting flights. Select Red O locations will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with live music and drink specials that include $5 beer and Modelo Micheladas along with $10 Cabo Wabo Margaritas and more.
