In his latest column for MarketWatch, The Agency’s Edward Fitz draws attention to the iconic homes found along the sloping streets of Santa Monica Canyon and Rustic Canyon and the neighborhood’s Hollywood roots.
For Hollywood legends looking to escape the glare of paparazzi lights and fanfare, the Canyons are a pleasant and often much-needed retreat. From the prestigious photographer Edward Weston, who planted roots on Mesa Road in the early 1930s, to Vice Media’s CEO Shane Smith, who recently purchased a $23 million home once owned by actress and writer Victoria Foyt—and listed by Edward himself—the hillside homes set between the sprawling Santa Monica mountains and oceanside have not lost their allure or luster.
In addition to its rich history, the area is also home to the ever-popular Santa Monica Stairs, notable eateries such as Golden Bull, and is easily walkable to other neighboring treasures. It’s serene location makes it perfect for families and it’s just down the road from the highly rated Canyon Charter Elementary. Homes within this area are valued between $2 million and $10 million.
