There are few things more comforting than a hot cup of coffee on a chilly autumn day, unless of course, you add a dozen cats to the equation. This Friday, L.A.’s first cat café, Crumbs & Whiskers, opens on Melrose Avenue, offering a one-stop shop for thirsty Angelenos jonesing for a little caffeine and cuddle time.
After a life-changing trip to Thailand, where cat cafes are all the rage, Crumbs & Whiskers’ founder, Kanchan Singh, quit her corporate consulting job and opened shop in her hometown of Washington D.C. Now, a little over a year later, she’s bringing the concept to L.A.
Partnering with L.A. animal rescue group, Karma Rescue, the trendy West Hollywood outpost will house up to 20 adoptable cats at a time that patrons can pet and play with while they sip their favorite cup of joe. City health regulations don’t allow food or drinks to be prepared onsite, so Crumbs & Whiskers has partnered with local café, Open Space, to deliver coffee shop comestibles to patrons—including a special feline-themed offering, the “cat-uccino.”
For a mere 30 cents per minute, cat lovers can get their fix—of caffeine and furry feline friends. The café charges $22 during the week and $25 on weekends for 75 minutes of playtime.
