Westside residents, rejoice: passenger rail service will soon be available from Downtown L.A. to Santa Monica, the first time a passenger train has traveled between the two areas since the 1950’s. L.A.’s expanding mass transit system is adding seven stops along the route, offering easy travel for the budget-conscious and environmentally-friendly beachgoers and city dwellers.
The $1.5-billion, 6.6-mile extension of the Expo Line provides a seamless, traffic-free way to get to and from Santa Monica. It’ll take about 46 minutes via train between the start and end locations that are about 15 miles apart. Residents and travelers alike have the opportunity to avoid congested roads, from the Santa Monica Pier all the way to the city’s bustling business center and its plethora of entertainment options like the Staples Center and Dodger Stadium.
It’s a welcome addition, especially for Santa Monica, an area that’s patiently anticipated the six-decade long expansion. The new line is sure to entice new residents to the area now that there’s a new option for commuting and traveling throughout the city without the use of a car. One new residential offering designed around seamless connectivity and a car-free, hassle-free lifestyle in the city. AIRE Santa Monica, a new boutique luxury community in the neighborhood, was designed to take advantage of its central location in Santa Monica, even including a bike with the purchase of one of its 19 modern townhomes and garden flats. The bikes are an added incentive for residents to explore and integrate within the community and the city beyond. The new Expo Line allows both bikes and surfboards to board with each passenger, making the beach-to-city lifestyle that much more enjoyable.
