Gwyneth Paltrow Backs WeHo Arts Club Proposal

by | Mar 8, 2016

Gwyneth Paltrow wants to bring a bit of London to West Hollywood in the form of an Arts Club. Taking its inspiration from the Arts Club of London, as proposed, the Hollywood branch would be a members-only establishment where business moguls and A-listers alike come to exchange stories and, if possible, talk business.

The Arts Club of London was founded in 1863 by such luminaries as Charles Dickens, Anthony Trollope and Lord Leighton and the proposed Hollywood branch of the club has been designed by the Gensler firm and would be located on the Sunset Strip.

Created to “provide a haven for those people who have professional or amateur relationships with the arts, literature or sciences,” the 132,000-square-foot-lot that would house the club was purchased by Paltrow, Arts Club chairman Gary Landesberg and others. The Hollywood branch would feature a wellness center, restaurants, a cinema, a nightclub and bi-level underground parking facilities for private members. Unlike it’s London counterpart, the Hollywood locale would offer public amenities, like retail and gallery spaces on the first floor, the next two floors would be office space and the fifth through seventh floors reserved for a private dining terrace, screening room, gym and 15 guest rooms for members, a restaurant, a lounge and a terrace and a rooftop swimming pool.

Paltrow and Genlser’s proposal still needs to be granted consent before construction can begin. If approved, the new Arts Club would be a few blocks from the trendy Soho House, one of the city’s best known private clubs.

The cost to join is estimated at $2,000 USD and $2,000 a year thereafter.
