Founded more than 50 years ago in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, Lamborghini is best known today for bringing high-speed, mid-engine sports cars like the Huracán and the Aventador to the luxury sports car market. However, preceding today’s specimens were the Islero, the 400 GT and the 350 GT.
The 350 GT was the first of Lamborghini’s “Raging Bulls” and arguably one of the best. It was “born” in 1963 and created by designer Franco Scaglione as Lamborghini’s first concept car. At its debut, the 350 GT received mixed reviews – sending the car back to the drawing board. After fine-tuning the details, it was introduced into Ferruccio Lamborghini’s production line with just 120 cars created between 1964 and 1966.
Recently one of the treasured 120 arrived on eBay with a price tag just south of $1 million dollars. Said to be car number 62, the vehicle is a remarkable testament to the quality and craftsmanship that Lamborghini has demonstrated since its inception. In addition, the 350 GT offers a unique historical perspective into the evolution of automobile design.
According to the owner of the car, the 350 GT was originally ordered by a customer from Madrid, Spain. It was completed in December 1965 and remained in Spain for more than three decades before being added to an exclusive Japanese collection, where it was never driven. Today it resides in California and displays just over 60,000 miles driven.
