In September, The Agency was honored to celebrate the launch of The Gilded Life of Matilda Duplaine, a novel written by The Agency’s own, Alex Brunkhorst. Using her familiarity with the estates of the elite in Hollywood to inform parts of the book, Alex crafted the real estate in the story almost like a character unto itself; with each character’s personality expressed via their particular residence or dwelling.
The Gilded Life of Matilda Duplaine circles around a beat reporter for the Los Angeles Times. When he is sent to dig up quotes for the obituary of a recently deceased movie mogul, he’s suddenly granted exclusive access to the world of the Hollywood elite. It is through this group that he comes into contact with Matilda Duplaine, the secret daughter of a producer who has seemingly never left the estate where she was raised.
“I wrote the novel before work every morning. It was a great outlet for me. Writing is different than my day job, but in some ways very much the same. Both take a tremendous amount of discipline and hard work, and both are creative. I think people don’t realize that about real estate,” Alex said. “As a real estate agent, you have to be creative in your thinking and very adaptable.”
Alex graduated Cum Laude with an Economics degree from Georgetown University. She is one of the top producing real estate agents in Los Angeles and was named to the Wall Street Journal Top 1,000 list in 2014. She works primarily with behind-the-camera Hollywood, and she has represented many well-known writers, directors, and entertainment industry executives on their real estate purchases and sales.
