A marriage between the art of aesthetic and the science of structural design is what defines the world’s greatest architecture. How it functions with the elements, space, and our environment, is what makes it iconic. Today, that means the greener the better. An approach The Agency supports in both theory and practice. Facebook’s latest headquarters is a testament to these ideas, and we applaud them for proactively embracing their “green goals” and “work-life balance” through LEED-certification.
Designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the beautiful Menlo Park headquarters will be the new home for 2,800 Facebook employees. Known as MPK20, the 22-acre, 430,000-square-foot space, includes a generous 9-acre green roof (with work cabanas) and underground parking. “Our goal was to create the perfect engineering space for our teams to work together,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on his FB page. A space that “creates the same sense of community and connection among our teams that we try to enable with our services across the world.”
The property boasts a rooftop park (inspired by the Highline in NYC), complete with its own gardens, cafes, and trees, creating a half-mile loop on top of the building. Facebook’s Artist in Residence program will also showcase local artists’ custom installations there.
