The heat wave that our city has been experiencing as of late has us all thinking of an endless summer. Lingering afternoons on a rooftop bar, evening dips in the ocean, lines out the door of your nearest artisanal ice cream shop—there are so many ways to enjoy the rising temperatures around L.A. Here are three options for spending a night under the stars this weekend.
Soak Up Shakespeare
Bring a little summer romance (and tragedy) to your weekend with the tale of Romeo and Juliet live and on stage at The Japanese Garden. Presented by The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles, this theatrical performance—helmed by critically acclaimed director Kenn Sabberton—is sure to move the entire Amphitheatre. Showtimes are this Friday and Saturday from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. Snag your tickets here.
Recline With A Movie
When the sun goes down, the screen lights up at a number of outdoor cinemas in L.A. We recommend seeing five-time Oscar nominated The Wolf Of Wall Street at Exposition Park. Bring your own blankets but expect food trucks and live music to get you in that “summer in the city” mood. If you have the kiddos in tow, bring them to see Despicable Me 2 as part of Concerts and Movies On The Green. Both showings occur this Friday, July 26.
Dine With Nature
Replace an average outdoor setting with an extraordinary one by sharing a meal at the “best patio” in L.A., according to Los Angeles Magazine’s “Best Of LA” list for 2014. At Cliff’s Edge (3626 W. Sunset Blvd.) in Silver Lake, a terraced garden is anchored by the spreading limbs of a 70-year-old ficus tree. Call 323.666.6116 for reservations.
