Once we heard the news about three New York City food staples opening up their first West Coast storefronts in Los Angeles, we had to learn more. Here’s the full scoop on the culinary trio making their debut near you.
A pizza that made the Brooklyn Bridge famous? Now that’s a serious claim, yet truthfully, New Yorkers have been crossing the bridge for decades to try the pies leaving Grimaldi’s coal-fired brick oven, burnt to a crispy and smoky crust. The pizzeria has even hired a chemist to “analyze and recreate the mineral content and exact composition of the water to ensure the dough tastes the same in California.” Take that all you ex-New Yorkers.

The Greenwich-based dairy icon has been serving the neighborhood since 1940 and now they’ve decided to open their 100th store right here in Los Angeles. The business is all about traveling the globe and bringing back cheeses that nobody has ever heard of so that all we have to do is travel to their bar to taste them. Nobody can deny an excellent aged wheel or wedge, yet Murray’s Cheese also stocks all the essentials (salame, chorizo, pancetta) for throwing together your next charcuterie board.

Not every summertime ice cream truck that rolls down your street becomes a brick and mortar, bi-coastal sensation like Big Gay Ice Cream, yet that’s how the story goes. Sweet tooths in New York flock to the West Village flagship store for old-school soft serve with creative toppings (like sriracha) alongside signature cups/cones, sundaes, shakes, and floats—now it’s our turn to join in on the (big gay) fun.
