Glendale Wins CurbedLA’s “Neighborhood Of The Year”

by | Jan 7, 2014

When the polls closed on Thursday, January 2, Glendale was crowned the 2013 Curbed Cup, edging out LA’s Arts District for “Neighborhood Of The Year” in an online competition run by Curbed Los Angeles.

The real estate blog’s annual award is given out to the region that has proved to make great strides as a community and one thing is for certain: the Jewel City was a beacon for growth in 2013. In addition to several retail enhancements (a completely remodeled Bloomingdales at the Glendale Galleria, Nordstrom at The Americana at Brand), Glendale has been a development hot zone this past year, with several hundred new apartments opening and thousands more on the way. A park is slated to be built above the 134 Freeway, and Disney is moving forward with plans to renovate the Grand Central Air Terminal.

The elimination-style tournament had readers and editors rooting for an impressive Final Four round that included the Financial District, Arts District, and Koreatown, with Glendale beating out its first-seeded opponent, the Arts District, in the final round.

Considering the year that the runner-up had, we’re advising Glendale residents to basque in their glory for as long as they can. Additions to the revitalized Arts District include the Urban Radish grocery market, the highly-praised Bestia, lifestyle boutique Alchemy Works, Portland-transplant Stumptown Coffee, and Unami burger. We’re also eager to see the Barker Block approach its last phase of development with lofts and townhouses as well as a slew of pedestrian and bike plans.

Let’s just say it’s been a great year for Los Angeles.
