Downtown Los Angeles Welcomes The Ace Hotel

by | Jan 13, 2014

Fans of the Ace Hotel no longer have to flock to Palm Springs to luxuriate in its hip poolside accommodations. The brand has officially landed in the heart of the historic Broadway theater district in Downtown Los Angeles and will be greeting guests as one of the “12 Most Anticipated Hotel Openings Of 2014”, according to CNN.

True to form, the arrival of the brand’s fifth American property—and the first to open since co-founder Alex Calderwood’s death in November—will breathe life back into a landmark building and strive to inspire the community at-large.

Our own Brigham Yen shared news concerning the hotel’s plans to reclaim the United Artists Building on his popular DTLA Rising blog in which the late Alex Calderwood said, “Restoring this landmark is the kind of project we dream of and we’re proud to be a part of the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles.”

A huge part of that transformation includes the newly remodeled The Theater at Ace Hotel, formerly the historic United Artists Theatre that housed cinema throughout the 1920’s and 30s. This performance space will open its doors on Valentines Day with a 1,600-seat capacity and private screening room.

Ranging from “small” to “terrace suite”, each of the hotel’s 182 rooms comes stocked with the amenities we’ve come to expect: free internet, a fully-stocked minibar, the luxurious Rudy’s Toiletries and Pearl+ soaps in the bathrooms, custom Revo Radios for that signature retro look, and Stumptown Coffee offerings just a call away. As of Friday, January 17th, guests can snag a table at the hotel’s restaurant, L.A. Chapter, fashioned after neighborhood breakfast-lunch-dinner spot Five Leaves in Brooklyn.

Need the perfect excuse to scope out the new digs? Attend DTLA’s Art Walk, held on the second Thursday of each month in the historic core and just minutes from the Ace Hotel’s lobby. Conclude the evening with views of the LA skyline and a night-cap on the hotel’s amazing rooftop pool and bar.

Ace Hotel, 929 South Broadway, Los Angeles; 503.517.6812. Reservations are now being accepted with current room rates ranging from $212 to $569.
