For Spring Fashion, It’s A Rhapsody In Blue

by | Dec 2, 2013

Pantone, that foremost authority on color – and a perennial forecaster of fashion trends – has revealed its spring colors of 2014. Topping the list? The so-called Dazzling Blue.
Spring is normally a time for pastels and florals, and many of this year’s Top 10 colors fit the bill. Natural pastels such as Placid Blue, Violet TulipHemlock and Sand were popular in the fall shows and offer a fresh, tranquil, ornamental look. However, making a statement this year will be the brash, bold, so-called Dazzling Blue, described by Pantone as “a scintillating, polar opposite to Placid Blue.”
Dazzling Blue was featured in 29 fashion shows this season. It was the “most seen” color at the New York Fashion Week. And the designer who used it most was the Paris-based Chloé. It is also – less excitingly – the color of Facebook and Citibank’s bike-sharing program. Expect to see it all over clothing lines this spring.
“This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium,” comments Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations.”
For more than 20 years, Pantone has watched the designers of New York Fashion Week to bring consumers the season’s most important color trends.
