London-based Zaha Hadid, of Zaha Hadid Architects, and international superyacht builders Blohm + Voss, have teamed up to build a futuristic yacht unlike any other water vessel.
The 420-foot yacht is the largest of six vessels Hadid designed, titled Unique Circle Yachts.
Well known for her futuristic designs, which have been transformed into some of the most creative foundations around the world (including the Learning Centre at the Vienna University of Economics and Business), the British-Iraqi architect does not disappoint with her out-of-this world yacht concept.
The exterior design is white and resembles a webbed-like skeleton; it conjures up interplanetary imagery, but somehow comes together seamlessly to become a yacht that is different from anything we’ve seen before. Interior elements include luxury amenities, such as spacious indoor/outdoor lounge areas and pools.
As Digital Trends notes, architectural complexities involved with building a water vessel are much more multifaceted than building a masterpiece on land. Hadid herself comments on the difficulties of creating such a design:
“As a dynamic object that moves in dynamic environments, the design of a yacht must incorporate additional parameters beyond those for architecture – which all become much more extreme on water,” she says. “Each yacht is an engineered platform that integrates specific hydrodynamic and structural demands together with the highest levels of comfort, spatial quality and safety.”
Among many other works, Hadid also designed the stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which sparked controversy after protest. The futuristic design has elements that are similar to “Unique Circle Yachts”; critics believe the $1.3 billion design is too expensive, so plans will be scaled down.
