It’s been a busy month in the ongoing Downtown Los Angeles renaissance, with new rumors and announcements about residential and commercial developments. As always, The Agency’s Brigham Yen is on top of it via his popular DTLA Rising blog.
Here is an update on a few of his latest entries:
Most recently, Brigham reports that global retail giant H&M is opening a 32,000-square-foot flagship store at FIGat7th in 2014. The retailer’s DTLA store is already under construction and will take over what was once the famous Robinsons-May. Customers can expect to find H&Ms full shoe, clothing, and accessory collection for men, women and children.
On the local, independent business front, Brigham reports that Create Your Health Teas is moving from Silverlake to DTLA. The popular spot offers yummy tea blends and sells olive oils, vinegars, and homemade jams. Brigham comments regarding the popular joint’s move: “I always love seeing new businesses open in Downtown LA, especially when they’re relocating from another location as I view it as another sign that Downtown LA is becoming more attractive and growing in relevancy in the region.”
For coffee enthusiasts, Brigham shares that the Portland-based Stumptown Coffee Roasters finally opened their first LA location in the Arts District. Located on South Santa Fe Ave near 7th Street, the coffee shop is steps away from the acclaimed restaurant Bestia and the Urban Radish specialty market.
The culinary scene in DTLA continues to gain momentum, and one of the latest offerings, Brigham reports, is Peking Tavern, a new Beijing gastropub, which opened at 8th/Spring directly underneath Terroni in the basement of the NCT Lofts building.
One of the biggest projects of the current DTLA revitalization is The Bloc, the $160-million mixed-use project/makeover of the former Macy’s Plaza), and Brigham has the latest renderings. Check out his entry for a look, along with details on the project such as pedestrian walkways and vantage points. Brigham also reports a $40 million upgrade to The Sheraton Hotel, which is a DTLA hotel staple.
