A new 42,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market is on its way to Downtown Los Angeles in 2015.
A press release yesterday from L.A. Councilman Jose Huizar revealed that the premium grocery chain will be a ground-floor tenant in Carmel Partners’ 700-unit mixed-use development, which is now under construction at 8th and Grand.
According to The Agency’s Brigham Yen, who has been covering Whole Foods search for a Downtown space the past two years on his DTLARising blog, “the store size is in line with the average range of new Whole Foods stores opening in the country between 35,000 to 50,000 square feet.”
“Location wise, Whole Foods couldn’t be more central as it sits at the cusp of three districts: Financial, South Park, and the Historic Core,” noted Yen. The location is just a short walk (.6 mile) from The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE.
For the ever-growing residential population in Downtown Los Angeles, the new Whole Foods will be a welcome grocery option and follows the recent opening of the 8,200-square-foot Urban Radish Market in DTLA’s Arts District.
