Hermès Unveils $12,900 Basketball To Celebrate Rodeo Re-Opening

by | Aug 19, 2013

When Hermès reopens its 12,000 square-foot Beverly Hills boutique (428 N Rodeo Drive) on September 4, it will be ‘rebounding’ in style. To celebrate the successful renovation, the company has created its first ever basketball, ocean-blue in color, and for a price tag that is higher than the store’s square footage.

The ball goes for $12,900.

So far, Hermès has only produced two of these extravagant basketballs, which are hand-stitched with the same care and effort as a world-famous Birkin bag. Hermès International Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas oversaw creative direction of the ball.

According to Hermès CEO Robert Chavez, the ball is well-crafted and made with extremely high quality leather, which makes it worth its asking price.

“It represents the sky, the ocean and all the beautiful pools that are a way of life in L.A. and Southern California,” said Chavez about  Hermès most recent endeavor.

The company hopes that the basketball, which can be used for play, will appeal to fans willing to lay up the cash for such an exclusive item.
