by | Aug 16, 2013

Less than a year after being named the “Hippest Hipster Neighborhood In America” by FORBES, Silver Lake grabs national attention once again for landing in the top ten Best Big-City Neighborhoods in the country; this time according to CNN Money.

The neighborhood’s walkability, density of eclectic professionals, and impressive arts scene all add to Silver Lake’s allure, and  have helped launch it from being merely a “hip” destination to one of the best communities to live in.

CNN Money’s snapshot includes people of all ages huddled excitedly outside the Coolhaus ice cream truck, jogging along the two-mile stretch of nature that surrounds the areas reservoir (where you can also glimpse a couple of Richard Neutra houses tucked into the hills), and enjoying the amenities offered by neighboring Echo Park and Los Feliz, both within a close walk yet removed from the heart of Silver Lake.

Another option for exploring the surrounding area is by biking—just take the designated bike lane on Sunset Boulevard that runs the length of the neighborhood; it’s the same stretch of sidewalk that becomes lively at night with hotspots offering live music and nostalgic single screen theater.

Locals love the farmer’s markets, abundance of restaurants and shops rooted in community, and even the booming education system. “Ivanhoe Elementary is excellent, and involved parents are beginning to raise the bar at other local schools,” states the article.
