The Agency’s Guide To Malibu

A native Angeleno, when not racing cars or traveling, Blair Chang can often be found holding the keys to some of Malibu’s most coveted residences.

Located just 12 miles north of Santa Monica lies the once sleepy, rustic beach town known simply as the “Bu.” Malibu Beach is a 20-mile stretch of coastline that was once made famous by the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. Most of the time, the “Bu” is still quiet and uncrowded – except for the summer months, when the affluent residents go on holiday and rent their beach houses for up to $100,000 per month.

The perfect day in Malibu, for me, would be grabbing a quick cup of coffee and a muffin at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, followed by a surf at the World-Famous Surfrider Beach. After that, a morning surf breakfast at Marmalade Café is a must.

Following breakfast, take a quick car ride to Cross Fit Malibu and try one of the many pre-designed workouts to burn off those extra pancakes from breakfast. After a hard work out, I suggest refueling at John’s Garden in the Malibu Country Mart. Try the Princess; I assure you that it is one of the best sandwiches you’ll ever eat.

If you still need more of a shopping fix, go next door to the Malibu Lumberyard, where you will find Kitson, Intermix, and Quicksilver. After all that shopping, grab some chocolate at the Chocolate Box or a yummy cupcake at Crumbs.

Time to check into the Malibu Beach Inn for the night. Before dinner, I suggest you grab a drink on the heated deck overlooking the beach. It’s a great place to reflect on the day’s adventures before heading to your meal.

It is the most beautiful restaurant in the city, with a menu to match. If you prefer Italian, check out Tra di Noi. But if it’s fun you want, head to Taverna Tony’s for Greek food, or Café Habana for Cuban cuisine.

After dinner, it’s back to the Malibu Beach Inn for a nightcap on the deck and a good night’s sleep.
