Here are our picks of things to do and places to go to make the most of your July.
BUY THIS → Sunset Plaza, an estate described as “a city unto itself” just seconds from the famed Sunset Boulevard. The three distinct architectural structures—a Main Residence, Wellness Center, and Guest House—were conceived by none other than Hagy Belzberg (the Conga Room at L.A. Live, the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust). Featured most recently in The Wall Street Journal, this stunning property sets the stage for California modern living at its finest, with floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, a 2,000-square-foot patio, and saline infinity pool framing expansive views of downtown.
SAVOR → Prefix lunch and dinner menus from your favorites like Farmshop, Fig & Olive and Wilshire Restaurant (photo above) for DineLA’s Restaurant Week, returning for its second Summer Edition from July 15 – 26. In between meals, be sure to SAVE ROOM FOR → Tangy Meyer lemon and blueberry buttermilk custard, Salt & Straw Ice Cream’s special creation made in honor of the Oregon company’s SoCal debut. Available only at Joan’s On Third.
WELCOME BACK → Echo Park Lake (photo at left, courtesy of Echo Park Now), which just reopened after a $45 million, two-year renovation. Take the nearly mile-long loop around the lake or choose from one of two boardwalks—one along the North and one along the West side of the lake—to praise the signature lotus plants. We’ll have to wait a little while longer for a cafe to be built in the newly-restored boathouse, so in the meantime, HEAD ON OVER TO→ allumette for their nightly, four course dinner tastings.
GO HERE → San Francisco for the much anticipated America’s Cup sponsored by Louis Vuitton. Head to Piers 27/29 or book a private waterfront chalet to watch the Oracle and Luna Rossa yachts face off starting July 4th through August 30.
WATCH THIS → The 100th Tour de France, which kicked off this past weekend in Corsica, the first time the race has ever began on the island since its beginning in 1913. Be on the lookout for the yellow jersey which will make its way across the finish line in Paris at dusk on Sunday, July 21st.
