New Taschen Book Explores Architecture’s Ultimate Renewable Resource

by | Jul 15, 2013

Taschen, the publisher renowned for its high-style books of art, design, and lifestyle, releases Wood Architecture Now! Volume 2, the second installment of their popular Architecture Now! series from author Philip Jodidio.

Aside from the stunning photography that we can always expect from Taschen, Volume 2 takes a look at how one of the oldest materials in history has managed to outlive and outperform even our most modern building products.

“Economical, ecological, and fundamentally warm, wood architecture is as contemporary as it gets,” states Taschen, who has filled over 400 pages with detailed print and striking images showcasing the organic material. Alongside the 25 projects presented from around the world, like the raw steel and oiled pine Norwegian Wild Reindeer Center Pavilion, the book introduces the reader to specific architects and studios who have had a hand in bringing wood back to life.

Last month we featured the classic Eames Molded Side Chair, which, thanks to computer-driven design and evolving manufacturing techniques that can cut and carve wood for a flexible finish, made it possible for the signature chair to be reissued in walnut, white ash and santos polisander.

Sophisticated yet simple, wood can achieve a range of purposes and embrace a myriad of styles and landscapes.

To our delight, Taschen has bumped the publication date from August 1 to July 15, 2013. The book, available from both Taschen and Amazon, sells for approximately $60.
