Philippe Starck Sofa Lets You Power Up While Sitting Down

When it comes to settling into a home, interior design decisions can make or break your living space. The placement of a table, or amenities included with a couch, can enhance the level of comfort and quality of life in one’s own home.

With the digital generation’s lifestyle in mind, designer Philippe Starck created the MyWorld sofa (sold via Cassina and part of the MyWorld series), specifically styled for those who are on the go, even when relaxing.

The plush sofa includes a double-tier wooden cabinet with multiple features to help consumers stay connected, including USB ports, and a Duracell Powermat charging station, which is concealed by a drawer. In addition, there are power supplies and adapters connected to this cabinet, perfect for laptop and smartphone carriers.

On the other side of the couch, Starck included a pullout tray with a reading light, perfect for getting work done while watching a movie with the family. Though it has many techy elements, the couch is put together seamlessly, ensuring that wires and storage items will be accessible, but hardly visible to the public eye.

According to a dwell.com article, MyWorld Lounge System By Phillipe Starck, when Cassina asked Starck to design a couch years ago, “he scoffed at what he then thought was an ‘obsolete piece of furniture’.” With the integration of working elements that fit into today’s world, however, the sofa is quite useful.

Commenting on his MyWorld series on his own site, Starck writes: “MyWorld is a cocoon, a nest, a world where we can be egocentric and comfortably commune with our own shadow or collect some snatches of news from the world, that is said to be real.”
