There’s no shortage of things to do and places to go this April for Angelenos. Below are a few of our picks to make the most of your April.
TRY THIS: Becoming a vegetarian, even if just for one day → Meatless Mondays was officially adopted by the LA City Council back in November as part of a nation-wide campaign to encourage a more healthy and environmentally-conscious lifestyle. Chefs from Culver City’s The Corner Door to Downtown’s Border Grill and Osteria Mozza are churning out special dishes each Monday to support the movement. Be sure to check out LA Weekly’s series highlighting the restaurants that are incorporating vegetarian options into their menus.
DO THIS: Tap into the local art scene by taking advantage of LA Tourism’s annual → Discover the Arts in Los Angeles: History, Culture, Science and More campaign, where up and through April 26th, participating museums and performance groups like the Getty Villa, Hammer Museum, and LA Opera will be offering tickets at discounted prices.
FLY HERE: → South Africa, a great destination for families looking to explore internationally, for besides safaris and more than 1,800 miles of coastline, the country is also English speaking and easy to navigate. For a luxury safari adventure, consider Phinda Private Game Reserve, and if you find yourself in Cape Town, we recommend Lawhill Luxury Apartments in the Waterfront District.
WATCH THIS: Reunite with the oh-so-dapper Don and our favorite secretary-turned copywriter Peggy Olson for the 2-hour season premiere of → Mad Men on Sunday, April 7th. And since we all know that an episode goes nicely with a stiff drink in your hand, we recommend you DRINK THIS → Slow Hand Organic Whiskey from Greenbar Collective, L.A.’s first and only distillery since Prohibition. This is an unaged white whiskey made with Midwestern oats, barley, and spelt. They even have an R&D bar perched above the distilling and bottling room so that you can learn the best ways to enjoy your spirits.
BUY THIS: Channel your inner “foodie” by purchasing tickets to → Le Grand Fooding Crush on April 26th and April 27th. Paris-based Le Fooding, a French culinary group, is staging the two-night event at the MOCA where local renown chefs like Roy Choi, Nancy Silverton, and Ludo Lefebvre team up with imported Parisian chefs to serve inventive tastings aside pours of Champagne, DJ’s, and local and French designers. Ticket prices range from $50 to $125 and go on sale April 2nd.
