Facebook’s Frank Gehry-Designed West Campus To Include Rooftop Park

by | Apr 23, 2013

Facebook is updating their status to include an entirely new West Campus in Menlo Park and has chosen architectural visionary Frank Gehry as the man to do the job.

In choosing Gehry, the largest social media company in the world knew that the architect’s creativity could match and foster that of their engineers for the planned expansion.  Describing the interior as “a large, one room building that somewhat resembles a warehouse,” the 433,55 square foot space will come complete with cafes, kiosks, and plenty of room to work.

Facebook’s approach to business has always encouraged creative teamwork, employing design that is fluid and collaborative “without having to go in and out of rooms and up and down different floors,” explains Facebook Environmental Design Manager Everett Katigbak, and the same philosophy will be applied to the roof. By way of trees, walking trails, and grassy expanses, the landscaped roof is less garden and more park—an outdoor paradise that trumps most workplace amenities in comparison. Let’s just say we can expect Facebook to be holding a lot more meetings under the sun.

Employees and guests of Facebook will be able to access the new West Campus building via an underground tunnel by the spring of 2015.
