South Korean pitching phenom Hyun-Jin Ryu found his baseball home with the Dodgers last December when he signed a six-year $36 million deal, and now, the 26-year old left hander has finally found a home to live in here in his new hometown.
Ryu announced today that he just purchased a home at The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE, the luxury-branded residences in Downtown Los Angeles, offering the legendary Ritz-Carlton VIP treatment and amenities right in the heart of LA’s sports and entertainment district. Ryu’s 2,125 square-foot residence is a 2-bedroom plus-den condominium on the northwest corner of the building, featuring breathtaking views of Downtown, Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica. His new neighbors include several other L.A.-based professional athletes as well as a number of notable individuals from the worlds of fashion, finance, food and entertainment.
We had a chance today to ask Ryu a few questions about his new home at The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE.
You could live anywhere in Los Angeles. Why did you choose The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE as your “home”?
Ryu: It’s a great location, close to the stadium, close to Koreatown and in the middle of everything. I feel comfortable here. And I know it’s safe. I didn’t think I was ready to buy a house, because there is so much to take care of.
What’s the biggest ‘Wow” factor of living at The Ritz-Carlton so far?
Ryu: I’ve only been living in my condo for one week now, since I’ve gotten back from Spring Training. So far, my favorite part is the rooftop pool.
How would you describe your style when it comes to the design and furniture of your home?
Ryu: The style of my condo is simple, and BAM Design Lab did a good job. It’s very contemporary and simple, I like that it looks nice, but also very comfortable for me to live in.
You’re obviously a busy guy. How important was it, or is it to you now, to have access to the legendary services and concierge of The Ritz-Carlton at your “beck and call” around the clock?
Ryu: It’s great that everyone is so helpful. Everyone wants to do everything for me before I even ask. I’m getting spoiled.
Being right next door to the STAPLES Center, have you had a chance to make it to a Lakers, Clippers or Kings game?
Ryu: I haven’t had time to go to a game there yet. I do like basketball and I do look forward to going soon, I just haven’t had any time to play in this city yet.
You live steps away from the NOKIA Center where some of the biggest musical acts in the world perform. What band, or person would you most want to see in concert there?
Ryu: I like all concerts. I’m looking forward to going there soon, too.
What are you most looking forward to living at The Ritz-Carlton Residences?
Ryu: Everyone has been so helpful and friendly. I am really thankful to be around people who are so nice all the time. I hope I can stay here for a long time.
