Mauricio Umansky On The Wants Of Luxury Home Buyers

by | Mar 26, 2013

The Agency’s Mauricio Umansky was one of the featured panelists at WESTWEEK 2013, the annual design industry show held last week at the Pacific Design Center. Umansky spoke on a panel led by Jennifer Polachek, publisher of Interiors California, discussing the art of catering to the discerning tastes and desires of high net worth clientele.

As Lauren Beale of the L.A. Times reported, the conversation about luxury real estate focused on the difference between what buyers want and what they need. High on the list of wants are homes with amazing views, as well as basements, which can be used for everything from a bowling alley to a movie screening room.

Another important feature for the wealthy is the scale of a home, including its overall square footage and how well that space is put to use. Douglas Burdge, who heads Burdge & Associates Architects, noted that they key is to make the space functional. “People are running out of ideas on what to put in these 30,000- to 40,000-square-foot houses.”
