Tallest Building West Of Chicago To Be Built In Downtown Los Angeles

by | Feb 8, 2013

The design for the new Wilshire Grand, the 73-story, $1-billion hotel and office skyscraper set to be built at Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles, was finally unveiled by its developer Korean Airlines yesterday. Spanning one-story taller than the 72-story U.S. Bank Tower on Bunker Hill, the Wilshire Grand will be the tallest building west of Chicago once completed.

L.A.-based architect David Martin, a principal at AC Martin Partners, designed the 1,100-foot, glass-skin building, which, The Los Angeles Times reports, will feature a “sky lobby” on the 70th floor, with guests being whisked there by high-speed elevators for check-in to one of the hotel’s 900 rooms. A restaurant will take over the 71st floor, and on the top floor, there will be an “infinity” pool and recreation area. The ground level will consist of three floors of shops and restaurants, with the remaining floors dedicated to 400,000 square feet of office space.

The property is located just north of the STAPLES Center and The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE, the luxury residential tower where residents enjoy access to the five-star lifestyle services of The Ritz-Carlton. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.
