Mauricio Umansky On His Romantic Getaway To Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve

by | Jan 29, 2013

The Agency’s Mauricio Umansky and his wife Kyle Richards are flying off to Puerto Rico this week to stay at the new Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. Situated on 1,400 acres of the former Laurance Rockefeller estate and spread across 50 acres and one mile of beachfront, the resort is one of only two Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties in the world and the first in the Americas. Created as an open-air enclave infused with references to the surrounding natural landscape, Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve embraces a sense of barefoot elegance, blending Rockefeller’s novel environmental design philosophies and modern yet minimal décor.

We spoke with Mauricio today about his romantic getaway to Dorado Beach to see what he was looking forward to the most, what he’s throwing in his suitcase (cold weather clothes?), and what he likes about the Caribbean compared to typical SoCal tropical getaway destinations, like Mexico and Hawaii.

The Agency Daily:  So you’re off to Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Puerto Rico this week. What’s the occasion for the getaway?

Mauricio: I’m so thrilled that The Agency has been brought on board to do marketing for the new residences at Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico, including The Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residences at West Beach. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind tropical paradise, and after seeing all the great things going on there at Dorado Beach, I could not think of a better place to take my wife for a romantic getaway to celebrate the 17-year anniversary of our marriage.

What essentials are you packing for your trip?

M: We’re leaving from Puerto Rico straight to New York–from the heat to the cold–so I have to pack for two entirely different climates, which will be interesting. But my Puerto Rico essentials will definitely include my portable office (my iPad), which I can’t live without, and my golf clubs because the golf course at Dorado Beach is supposedly one of the best in the world. I’m so excited to play there. I’m also going to need to bring my swim suit as well.

Have you been to Puerto Rico before?

M: The last time I was in Puerto Rico was when my parents took me on a cruise to the Caribbean when I was 13 years old. From my memory I loved it and am so looking forward to visiting again.

What amenities and activities at Dorado Beach are you most excited about experiencing?

M: Playing golf, checking out the real estate there, and last but not least, some great R&R time with my wife.

Can we assume you’ll be dining at Chef Jose Andres’ restaurant, Mi Casa, at Dorado Beach?

M: Of course!

You’re no stranger to staying at The Ritz-Carlton properties around the world. What does it mean to you, as a guest, knowing that you’ll be staying at a Ritz-Carlton and in their care?

M: The level of service that The Ritz-Carlton brand offers is just beyond compare, so I really cannot wait to check out this Ritz-Carlton Reserve property, which is one of only two in the world, and get a chance to experience this level of care and customer service. This Ritz-Carlton property in particular is supposed to be one of the most amazing ones yet because of its natural setting and rich legacy as the first luxury Caribbean eco-resort pioneered by renowned conservationist Laurance Rockefeller.

When SoCal residents are looking for a tropical getaway, Mexico and Hawaii are often top of mind. Do you think the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico, should be right up there as well?

M: I absolutely love going to the Caribbean! I’ve been there a number of times, and I especially enjoy the ocean there compared to Mexico and Hawaii. It’s also pretty cool that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory and is relatively easy to travel to.

Can we expect plenty of Instagram pics and Tweets from you so we can live vicariously through your adventures at Dorado, or will you be too busy relaxing and having fun?

M: Well, I’ll be relaxing and having fun but, I’ll make sure to spend some time Instagramming and Tweeting for sure.
