The Wall Street Journal first reported yesterday that the La Mesa Landmark Estate at 2009 La Mesa Drive, Santa Monica, referred to on occasion as the “House of Rock,” is on the market; listed by The Agency for $22 Million.
As Lauren Schuker Blum of WSJ notes, a partnership led by designer and developer Elaine Culotti owns the home. It was purchased two years ago from the estate of Hollywood starlet Kathryn Grayson (Show Boat, Kiss Me Kate), who lived in the home from the 1940s until her death in 2010.
Spanning more than 11,000 square feet of living space, the La Mesa Landmark Estate was originally designed by master architect Elmer Grey (Beverly Hills Hotel, Huntington Library, Bel Air Bay Club, Pasadena Playhouse).
Culotti has renovated and expanded the 6-bedroom, 8-bath English Cottage-Tudor estate, which sits on a double lot with the largest frontage on La Mesa Drive overlooking Riviera Country Club.
Working with top designers such as Elaine Culotti, Ralph Pucci, and Sami Hayek, Culotti has achieved an exceptional, cutting-edge design. Many of the home’s original Old World hallmarks have been retained and updated, such as the spacious kitchen, smart home automation and audio-visual, and a home theater, which is in process of completion.
Also a part of Culotti’s renovation is the home’s state-of-the-art home recording studio designed and curated in collaboration with a multi-Grammy winning producer, and several high-end audio partners.
