Kids and adults alike will flock to the “membrane pool,” a splashy feature of the newly-restored Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain, located within the just-opened, first two sections of Grand Park in Downtown Los Angeles. Designed as an interactive component of the Memorial Fountain, the “membrane pool” maintains a depth of a quarter-inch of water, with jets streaming water in the air. Welcoming kids and other to cool off in the heat of the summer, the feature is expected to rival The Millennium Park Fountain in Chicago as the most popular fountain in the United States.
Only two blocks of the park (which was designed by local architects Rios Clementi Hale) are now open; when complete, the park will cover 12 acres. The area of the park now open boasts a performance lawn and stage; a dog run; a courtyard lined in olive trees; bright pink, tables and chairs; and offices, public restrooms, and a Starbucks. The next section to open, the adjacent block down, is scheduled for August, with the final block, by City Hall, scheduled to open in October.
