It’s no secret we’re excited about all the new development in Downtown Los Angeles, from top-tier restaurants and casual cafes to boutique hotels, residential developments and more. Yes, the revival is in full force, and it’s about to get even better for those who live, work and visit the heart of our city, as Los Angeles County officials announced that the Grand Park will finally open this summer. The 12-acre park, which runs from Grand Avenue at the Music Center to Spring Street at City Hall, will be downtown’s largest green, gathering space, with a capacity for 18,000 people.
As stated on the park’s website, the vision of the Grand Park is “provide Angelenos of all walks of life a place where they can come together to celebrate, reflect, and shape the future, in one central gathering place.” When completed, the Grand Park will have four distinct areas with spaces for both casual sitting and leisurely strolling as well as for large civic gatherings.
The park’s amenities will include a small intimate performance lawn, a community terrace planted with drought tolerant specimen plants, a three-quarter mile promenade loop, dog running tracks, and a grand event lawn. The historic Arthur J. Will Memorial Fountain will be restored with a new wade-able membrane pool. The Music Center will be responsible for scheduling music festivals, theater, educational programming and farmer’s markets for the park.
