Residents of The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live got a glimpse Friday of their soon-to-be neighbor’s new design plans when architecture firm Gensler released the latest scheme for Farmers Field, the planned 72,000-seat NFL stadium that is to be located adjacent to L.A. Live.
The stunning stadium design features a “light and airy” translucent structure and takes an unconventional approach to its functionality with a revolutionary, wing-like deployable roof–rather than retractable–that could be easily removed and stored. According to blogdowntown.com, the playing field inside the stadium would sit approximately 40 feet below street level, “allowing better connections to the adjoining convention space and a smoother integration with the structures around it.”
The L.A. Times reports that developer AEG hopes to break ground on construction sometime next year, and the stadium expects to bid for the Super Bowl in 2017, which will mark the game’s 50th anniversary.
